The GVFD firefighters responded on June 20, 2016 to a call of a pile of wood on fire south of W. Troy Drive and east of N. Estrella Road, but quickly realized it had spread to the surrounding desert vegetation upon their arrival at the fire scene.

GVFD Firefighter-EMT Hunter Davis applies water to a pile of wood that caught fire. Because of the quick response time and the excellent fire-suppression techniques by the fire district personnel who responded to the call, they were able to contain the fire to just a one-quarter acre area.
