GOLDEN VALLEY – A driver escaped possible serious injury when his vehicle rolled multiple times for more than 75 yards in the southbound lanes of Highway 93 ending up upside down on a small knoll adjacent to the roadway.
Golden Valley Fire District (GVFD) firefighters from Station #11 and Station #12, in addition to Battalion 1 (duty officer) Captain Robert Arnold, responded to the accident that occurred at 11:09 a.m between Mile Marker 54 and 55. .
When the firefighters arrived on scene, they observed the injured driver sitting on the ground approximately 30 feet away from his wrecked Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. “We don’t know if the driver was ejected from the truck while it was rolling over or if he self-extracted himself once his vehicle ended up on its roof,” Captain Arnold said. “Looking at the damage to the front and rear of the vehicle, it appears the truck may have also flipped end over end.”
According to GVFD officials, the lone occupant of the pickup truck was treated at the scene for head injuries and then was transported via a River Medical Ambulance to Kingman Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries for evaluation.
Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers responded to the accident scene and indicated they believed the driver had fallen to sleep at the wheel of his truck prior to the accident occurring. The exact cause of the accident is currently being investigated by DPS.
Fire district officials stress that if a driver is tired, they should pull off the roadway and take a break before continuing on their journey instead of becoming a victim of a vehicle accident.
