For the second night in a row, Golden Valley Firefighters were on the scene of a late night structure fire. The latest in the 7800 Block of Abrigo was called in just before 8:00 PM when neighbors notices smoke drifting past their home on Elfrida Road. The neighbor stated he stepped outside to see where the smoke was coming from and saw flames shooting from one end the home. First arriving Firefighters reported a working fire upon arrival and immediately began search and rescue operations and fire suppression reported Fire Chief Thomas O’Donohue. O’Donohue said: “Firefighters immediately suspected someone might be in the residence because there was a car in the driveway, however after a quick interior search, determined no one was home”. The fire which appears to have started in a bedroom burned long enough before discovery, and so hot that roof caved in in the suspected room of origin. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, keeping the actual fire damage primarily to the room of origin, however there was smoke and heat damage throughout the home. GVFD Fire Marshal Randy Osborn remained on scene to investigate the cause. The owner who was not home at the time, returned when neighbors notified him of the fire. There were no injuries reported and the fire remains under investigation.
