MOHAVE VALLEY –Fire fighters from Mohave Valley Fire District (MVFD) responded at 4:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016, to a fire in the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge. The fire, currently called the Topock Fire, has progressed to more than 30 acres and began in the refuge on the Arizona side of the Colorado crossed over the river into California and threatens the Pirate’s Cove and Park Moabi Recreational Vehicle Parks. “Both RV parks have been evacuated,” said the on-scene incident commander MVFD Fire Chief Ted Martin.Firefighting units from Fort Mohave, Golden Shores, Bullhead City, and San Bernardino County are also currently on scene battling the blaze on both sides of the Colorado River. “There is zero percent containment at this time of the fire that started between Dike Road and Route 66, and its cause is deemed suspicious in nature,” Chief Martin said because of the location of the fire, firefighting units from Bureau of Land Management, Arizona Game and Fish and the State of Arizona have been requested. According to Martin, more fire updates will be provided when available.
