Two women were injured in a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 11:15 a.m. on February 12, 2016 at the intersection of Milky Way Road and Highway 68 in Golden Valley. Traffic slowed to a crawl on westbound Highway 68 in front of the Coast In Gas Station because of the closure of the “slow” lane due to the accident. Golden Valley Fire District (GVFD) firefighters from both Stations #11 and #12, GVFD Captains Dave Martin and Dave Cunningham, in addition to DPS officers, responded to the accident.
Upon arriving at the accident scene, the firefighters utilized the “jaws of life” to extract one female driver who was trapped in her vehicle involved in the crash. After being treated by GVFD paramedics for severe injuries, the female was then transported via ambulance to Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC) for medical evaluation and treatment. While GVFD personnel were attending to the severely injured female driver, River Medical paramedics evaluated the other female driver and she was then transported via ambulance to KRMC with non-life-threatening injuries for medical evaluation and treatment.
According to two civilian witnesses to the accident, the driver of the small silver vehicle pulled out from Milky Way Road, did not yield to oncoming traffic and was “T-boned” by a small purple SUV that was westbound on Highway 68. After colliding with the westbound SUV, the small silver car exited the roadway, spun around and ended up in the dirt area north of the highway. After the SUV slammed into the vehicle, it slid across the center meridian and eastbound lanes of Highway 68, ending up in the dirt area south of the highway.
The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation by DPS.
