Golden Valley Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire Thursday morning at 6:53 AM and the column of thick black smoke could be seen for miles as firefighters responded. Upon arrival firefighters discovered a fully involved 30’ foot travel trailer with the family standing outside, escaping with only what they had on their backs. Chief O’Donohue said the little family was just devastated because the single mother had just moved her and her three sons, Chance age 9, Colt age 4 and Aiden who is 2 years old from the 14’ foot trailer (seen in the photo) into the 30’ foot travel trailer with her limited tax return. The mother, Krissy Cook reported she and the kids were sleeping in the living room of the trailer when she awoke to the back end of the trailer being completely on fire, and the mother reported “I just began pushing the kids out the front door, no shoes, no shirts and into the driveway”. When firefighters arrived, the family was standing barefoot in the goat heads. The fire was quickly knocked down, but the home was a total loss when it was reported to 911. Golden Valley Fire Marshal Randy Osborn is investigating to cause, however the home and contents are considered a total loss.
Firefighters were so touched by the determination of this single mother to provide for her family, that donations to help her purchase another trailer began immediately. The Chief and Assistant Chief said they would both donate $100.00 each toward the purchase of a new home or clothing, and the Golden Valley Firefighters Association is donating another $300.00. Since they lost virtually everything, Golden Valley Firefighters are spearheading an effort to help the family get back what they can, for the family. Persons who wish to donate cash, clothing or age appropriate toys can go to the District website for sizes and drop them off at Grandma’s house: 4142 W. Mirmar in Golden Valley.
